Every little nail is needed to make a house stand.
Every little tree is needed to make a forest.
Every little word is needed to finish a novel.
Every little brick is needed to build a wall.
Every little wave is needed to make an ocean.
Every little bandaid is needed to help the wound heal.
Every little meal is needed to make the hunger go away.
We don’t always see the end result when we give our time. Hunger isn’t a problem that’s solved with a good meal. Homelessness doesn’t end with a temporary roof. A lifetime devoid of appreciation won’t be cured with a thank you card. A child won’t receive an education just by painting the hallways of a school. But nothing great ever happened without a thousand little things happening first.
When we give our time, we are giving a little – a little gift of time that is as important to a life as a nail is to a house.
Yesterday’s gift of time … Spent a vacation afternoon helping my daughter get caught up on homework. While it seemed like a long time, it was really only a little gift of time.
